Asa Finley Harlow

and Rebecca M. "Becca" Younger

Asa Finley Harlow

Asa Finley Harlow was born on July 8, 1842, at Longwood in Heath's Creek Twp., Pettis Co., Missouri, son of Rice G. Harlow and Evalina Ewers. His parents died when he was young, leaving five children orphans who were cared for by several different families in Saline and Pettis Counties. Asa's brother, John Nicholas Harlow, and sister, Martha Jane Harlow, who later married Matthew Coleman Bridgwater, were living with Walker and Mary Finley in Saline County in 1850. His other sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Harlow, became the wife of Charles Woodson Bridgwater. Asa's youngest brother was Stephen Harlow who moved to Collin Co., Texas, and served in the Confederacy as a private in Co. I, Martin's Regt., Texas Cavalry.


In 1860, Asa was living with Robert D. and Almira How near Charles Younger and his daughter, Rebecca. Becca, as she was called by family, was a cousin of the outlaw Cole Younger. On May 12, 1864, in Cooper County, Asa and Becca were married. She was born in 1849 in Missouri and died before 1910, daughter of Charles Younger and Jane Thomas Woolery.


Asa died on October 9, 1922, in Sedalia.

6. Osmus Hurt Harlow [Nov. 5, 1884 - Mar. 1949] never married

Second Generation

1. ELIZABETH E. HARLOW is first mentioned in the 1870 Census as a child, five years of age, born in Missouri, and apparently the daughter of Asa Finley Harlow and Rebecca M. Younger. This was in Black Water Township of Cooper Co., Missouri.

2. REBECCA LULU HARLOW is first mentioned in the 1870 Census as a child, three years of age, born in Missouri, and apparently the daughter of Asa Finley Harlow and Rebecca M. Younger. This was in Black Water Township of Cooper Co., Missouri. Rebecca was married about 1883 to Peter Thornton Wolford who was born in January 1945 in Missouri. They had at least one child, Charles Finley Wolford, who was morn on March 14, 1884.

3. JOSEPHINE HARLOW is first mention in the 1880 Census as a child, seven years of age, born in Missouri. daughter of Asa Finley Harlow and Rebecca M. Younger. This was in Blackwater Township of Saline Co., Missouri.

4. MARY M. HARLOW was born ABOUT 1876-1877 in Missouri, daughter of Asa Finley Harlow and Rebecca M. Younger.

5. DOLLIE FRANCES HARLOW was born on September 11, 1883, in Saline Co., Missouri, daughter of Asa Finley Harlow and Rebecca M. Younger. She was married on October 20, 1899 in Sedalia, Pettis Co., Missouri, to Albert Hayes L. Moore who was born on February 4, 1876, in Bowling Green Twp., Dade Co., Missouri.


Dollie died on August 28, 1956, in Pittsburg, Crawford co., Kansas. She was buried at Weir in Cherokee Co., Kansas.

Albert Hayes L. Moore and Dollie Frances Harlow had the following children:

6. OSMUS HURT HARLOW was born on November 5, 1884, in Saline Co., Missouri, son of Asa Finley Harlow and Rebecca M. Younger. He was a carpenter by trade and never married.


Osmus died at his home at 407 East Boonville in Sedalia, on March 28, 1949, following a week-long battle with pneumonia percipitated by influenza. He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery at Sedalia..
