John Sherman Rucker
and Mary Bridgwater Harlow
John & Mary
John Sherman Rucker was born about 1826 in Missouri, son of the Rev. Thornton Rucker and Martha Snyder. John married Mary Bridgewater Harlow, who was born April 17, 1825, in Virginia, likely in Nelson County where her parents were married in 1822, or in Albemarle County where the family was residing in 1830.
John and Mary were living in Hopkins Co., Texas, in 1850, having moved there not long after the birth of their second child. In 1860, they were in Parker Co., Texas, P. O. Weatherford, where John was farming successfully.
Widowed Mary was living in Denton Co., Texas in 1880 with three of her children, including Rebecca Frances, and hired hand, Albert Davies. Living next to her was her son, William Rucker, and his family.
In 1900, Mary was living with her daughter Bonnie [Rucker] Key and her family in Denton County. She is not found in 1910.
John Sherman Rucker and Mary Bridgewater Harlow had the following known children, dates approximate:
