Generation No. 2

        2.  Nancy Jane4 Waggner (Mary3 Paul, Perris Augustus2, Peter1) was born December 11, 1876 in Garnett, Anderson Co., Kansas, and died June 16, 1957 in Oregon City, Clackamas Co., Oregon, daughter of Joseph Waggner and Mary Paul.  She married Lewis W. Dew June 4, 1894 in Garnett, Anderson Co., Kansas, son of Charles Dew and Louisa Littlejohn.  He was born January 23, 1871 in Fulton Co., Illinois, and died August 9, 1938 in Lewiston , Nez Perce Co., Idaho. His mother, Louisa Littlejohn, had been previously married to Eli Shields in Fulton County, and later to Solomon Still, also in Fulton County. In 1895, Nancy and Lewis were living in Union Twp., Anderson Co., Kansas. They later moved to Missouri where their second child was born. By 1900, they had moved to Cottonwood Precinct, Whitman Co., Washington, where Lewis was engaged in stock raising before moving to Walla Walla, Washington, where Lewis and Nancy were renting a house on Reese Street in 1910. Lewis was employed as a foreman. A few years later, they moved to Ewan in Whitman Co., Washington, rented a farm, and started growing wheat. The eldest son, Earl Vernon, was working out, while the second son , Lee Walter, was working for a steam railroad. The younger children were in school. Apparently wheat farming was not particularly satisfying or successful. Lewis and his sons, Lee and Harry, were wage laborers in the fruit orchards in 1930. He and Nancy and their three youngest boys were renting a house on Orchard Avenue in Canyon precinct of Chelan Co., Washington. In the mid 1940's, Nancy moved to Oregon City, Clackamas Co., Oregon, and lived at 1501 Seventh Street where she died at home following an extended illness. Funeral services were held June 20, 1957, followed by interment in Mountain View Cemetery.

Dew and Nancy J. Waggner.  Earl went by Vern. While still at home he honed his skills working on the family farm. In 1917, while living in Lancaster, Washington, he claimed to be working for himself farming in Ewan precinct of Whitman Co., Washington. He later resided in Idaho before moving to Oregon. Vern was limited by blindness in one eye which kept him out of the draft during World War I but not from a life of physical toil. He was a short man of medium build and had dark blue eyes and brown hair.

Dew and Nancy J. Waggner.  In 1918, he was working for his father on the family farm in Lancaster, Washington. He later moved to Oregon. Lee was of medium height and build and had blue eyes and black hair. I think he is the same as Lee W. Dew who died February 19, 1966, in Jackson Co., Oregon, a fact that needs verification.

Howry and Jessie E. Kellar.  She married (2) Willard Film after 1944.  He was born March 29, 1901, in Sweden, and died September 17, 1982 in San Mateo Co., California, son of Mr. Film and Alfrida Nordholm.

Willard "Karl" Film was a resident of Gefle, Sweden, when he immigrated to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island in 1918. His destination at the time was to meet his sister, Aida Katarina Film, in Minneapolis. She immigrated in 1914. Willard found work as a section hand on a railroad. He later moved to Wisconsin where he married Margaret [Fox?] about 1928. They were living in Milwaukee in 1930 where Willard was a cook in a restaurant. Sometime prior to 1940 they moved to California. What happened to Margaret, I do not know. Willard and Pearl had no children from their marriage.

If any descendants can provide copies of photographs of ANY of Mary's immediate family, please do, with permission to post them with the history.
What happened to Charles Waggner? I have no clues. In the 1900 Census, the record indicated Mary had 2 children born and none living. Obviously, this was not true, at least as far as Nancy. Any information or leads appreciated. Vern
